SandStorm Speaker Spotlight #2 — Yield Guild Games

TL;DR:
- Yield Guild Games lends in-game items to YGG players, called scholars, that they can use to earn tokens in the game.
- Scholars can cash out their tokens for local currencies or eventually purchase the in-game items that they were originally lent.
- Community managers at YGG help recruit new scholars and receive a commission of the scholar’s earnings.
Yield Guild Games, in a nutshell:
- Yield Guild Games (YGG) is focused on building a global community who compete in order to receive in-game rewards. Owners of the YGG-backed NFT assets can also generate revenue through selling or renting their assets for a specific markup.
Players earn SLP (Smooth-Love Potion) tokens through competing against other Axies. In addition to AXS (Axie Infinity Shards), SLP can be used to breed Axies. Since SLP is an ERC-20 token, Axie Infinity players can have their SLP tokens turned into fiat currency or ETH through any crypto exchange such as Binance. After lending Axie NFTs to YGG players, YGG gets a share of the SLP revenue generated by the players.
- YGG produces revenue through the rental or sale of YGG-owned NFT assets, such as renting Axies to players in Axie Infinity. (Known as scholarships.)
Through making play-to-earn gaming more accessible, scholarships have changed the lives of thousands of Axies players and has provided a sustainable source of income for many people in developing countries.

- YGG coordinates research and development for gamers in the DAO and allows the community to participate in the DAO by passing proposals and voting. Staking YGG will enable gamers to vote and join the DAO and get token rewards related to activities. Each game affiliated with YGG has its own subDAO, where members work together to increase their yield.
