SandStorm Speaker Spotlight #4 — Animetas
10,101 unique pieces, over 4,000 traits, 1:1 female-male ratio and unprecedented diversity among all types: this is Animetas.
I remember the mint day of Animetas. I was so surprised to see the NFTs after reveal, because each character looked like 1/1 NFTs rather than a generative project. Literally, you could scroll in the Opensea and discover new traits or looks even after days. I had never seen such a project before and am still bullish on the project ❤️ One of the highest effort projects out there.

Animetas in a nutshell
As I mentioned before, Animetas changed the generative pfp (profile picture) art game with a super complicated trait system (4,000+ traits). I want to say congratulations to Gustavo and Cyberh49 for organizing and executing such a project.
In the next paragraphs, we’ll talk about what Animetas is and what they’re planning for the future. I interviewed RaIph to write all the points in this article, so you can be sure, no speculation, all from the source.
A brief introduction to the Animetas world aka Animetaverse 👇
- Inspired by Cyperpunk culture and mythos.
- These NFTs represent a population called the Animetas. The Animetas live in the “Animetaverse”, which is a virtual world inspired by 80s’ and 90s’ pop culture.
- The animetas populate an Earth that is set far in the future that is no longer habitable by humans.
Briefly:
Animetas is not a pfp project. They’re building a world, an ecosystem where each type of Animeta, Animonkeys, airdrops and utility NFTs have a role to play.
For example, right now, the team is working on the next airdrop: Hovercars. Each type of character will have its own special hover car, in other words, aliens and cowboys will be driving a different type of vehicle. Furthermore, these cars will be playable in a future mario-kart type of game.

What Has Animetas Done Until Now?
Community building and pre-sale strategy 👨👩👦👦
I was in Animetas’ discord channel for almost 2 months before they launched. As far as I know, they were one of the best teams to build hype before the launch with sneak peeks and giveaways. And I’m sure they were the first to apply pre-sale strategy to the NFT space.
First — Reward their community members
And second — Build Unique Users + Fanbase.
Furthermore, they airdropped 1000+ NFTs to the early adopters for FREE. This was never ever done before. Community first mindset to the fullest. Once the public minting was over, Animetas had over 3000 unique holders and that was a remarkable achievement back then. And it still is.
Animonkeys
Before the public launch, they released and rewarded early adopters with Animonkeys. Only early discord members were able to mint these mystic creatures for a little ETH.
Animonkey’s will play a key role in the Animetaverse. Besides that, they will have quite innovative burn mechanisms in the future. Hodlers will be able to burn their Animonkeys to create a new NFT: Animonsters 👀

After the launch
A week after the public launch, Animetas announced they hired 5 more full time developers to show they were serious and going for the kill.
Really folks, I didn’t see any other project than Animetas that re-invested the money they raised so smartly. Then they executed the points below
- 22.8.21 — Subseta 00 (Artists Choice + 2 Humans): They airdropped some gold artwork that hints what is about to come to some holders.
- 23.8.21 — Maddie’s Animetas Merch Store Open: Fans could purchase Animetas-inspired pillows, hats, mugs, and more.
- 31.8.21 — #FAnimetas #FanArt Art Submissions: Animetas launched a fan art challenge that lasted from July 10th to July 30th. Animetas held a launch party in Decentraland and announced their fan art winner on July 30th, ahead of the Animetas air drop.

Animetas’ Activities in Q3 2021 (AKA September)
JigScene Puzzle — 9/17: Animetas revealed the JigScene Puzzle, the first ever audio-visual NFT puzzle. 2,520 pieces of the 12-layer puzzle were airdropped to monkey holders, and an additional 2,520 pieces were available for 0.05 ETH each.
That was a pretty epic experience from a technical POV, because Animetas holders combined the puzzle pieces to complete the scene 🤯

- John Romero AMA — 9/18: The special AMA was exclusive to Animetas/Monkey holders. However, people who wanted to participate in the AMA could briefly rent monkeys or Animetas.
- New Website 9/5: Now holders will be able to edit the backstories of the Animetas that they hold and will be able to download different kinds of assets. Also they can rent their Animetas there. Soon, a fully fledged marketplace maybe 👀
- #FAnimetas Collective Collection — 20 Pcs: Reveaş of the #FAnimetas Collective Collection in September, which were twenty pieces of Animetas-inspired fan art curated by Animetas founder Gustavo Viselner.
- AniToken Drop: Animetas is also planning an AniToken drop, AniTokens represent each element of the Earth and have their own distinct value. Will be a utility token that would be used in the Animetaverse 👀
AniPinball Beta: launch of the beta version of AniPinball, its pinball game this month, the first arcade game in the Animetaverse.
Animetas’ Upcoming Activities in Q4 2021 (October, November, December)
- Pinball Release: Animetas will be focused on the official launch of its pinball game in Q4.
- D&D Beta: Animetas will also be launching the beta mode of its upcoming D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) game.
- Subsetas: They’re planning on unveiling more subsetas throughout every quarter.
- Hovercars Airdrop: In November, Animetas’ much anticipated hover car drop will be available for its holders. Each Animetas type will have a different type of hover car. Which means, Alien could have s
- Hovercars Game Beta: The beta version of a hover car game for Animeta holders. Will only be available in single player mod.
- AniMonsters Sneak Peek: For Halloween, Animetas will be holding a Halloween cosplay contest and will even give holders a sneak peek look at Animonsters, the scariest creatures in the Animetaverse.
- Halloween Cosplay Contest: 🎃🎃🎃
- Sandbox Event: Surprise event in the Sandbox.
- Arcade Leaderboard v1: Animetas will also unveil an arcade leaderboard for its various games, and will reward the top players with prizes.

- AniMonsters Unleashed: Animonsters burn season. Monsters will take over the animetaverse.
- Weapons Limited Airdrop: Weapon airdrops for only holders of Animetas NFTs with weapons trait.
- Hovercars Game Release: The official release of the hover car game, probably multiplayer 👀👀👀
- Fan Art Collective Collection v2: The launch of fan-art collection in 2022
- Polygon Databases: Animetas will become fully decentralized by integrating its arcade leaderboard and background story database to Polygon next year.
- Animetas Voting System: There will be a DAO-related Animetas voting system in 2022,
- Community Art Exhibition and Subsetas: More subsetas and a community art exhibition.
Animetas’ Activities for Q2 — Q3 2022 (April, May, June, July, August, September)
- AniMonsters Game Beta — Brace yourself for spookiness! The beta version of AniMonster is expected to be launched sometime between Q2-Q3.
- Weapons Airdrop For All — You’ll be able to carry your trusted weapon into battle when there is a weapons airdrop for all holders in Q2 or Q3!
- Mintable Weapons + Ammo — This will be interesting and we’re expecting some game theory:
- Subsetas — MORE art by awesome Pixel Gustavo.
- AniPetas — Not much is known about this highly secretive project set in the Animetaverse. Trace the evolution of your Animeta when Anipetas is launched in 2022!
