Be Thou A Song
Be thou a song and light on the sustain,
a melody that sears as soft as stars,
thy steadfast verses on a rock refrain
be comfort as we sing on prison bars.
As Paul and Silas, thunder on the walls,
we crack the stones and angels set us free.
Thou are not doomed to wander ghostly halls,
thy voice contains a master gaoler’s key.
So sing, therefore, and raise a mighty song
where other ears demand a quiet pain
and let your voice correct the many wrongs,
allow thyself to be a healing rain.
Thou art no thrall of heav’n nor Satan’s pet.
Enjoy thy freedoms, sing without regret.
