No Guru ‘Bling’ Factor
Someone from India asked: “Don’t you think this materialistic world is dragging us down? and I think our elders have much better life than us.”
My reply: That is indeed a major concern for Western countries — in India also. The spiritual teachers from India I respect the most, and see as being authoritative and genuine, live in fairly rural areas. They don’t craft a message designed to appeal to a huge amount of followers from the West for the sake of numbers or “status”. They are simply carrying on their spiritual tradition without being corrupted by a desire for name and fame. They have an abundance of spiritual wealth and wisdom to offer, but no fleet of Porsches or Rolls-Royces parked in their driveways.
