They Look Everywhere Except Within — Mystic Poetry of Sant Namdev

“What shall I do? The world sees yet is blind —
It has forsaken bliss and runs after earthly pursuits.
It idolizes stones and slaughters divine beings,
Adores and worships that which has no life!
The living are sacrificed at the altar of the lifeless —
The world sees yet continues to waste precious life.

“The Beloved is within the courtyard
But they worship him outside!
They worship stone
And get caught in duality.
Says Namdev, wake up, you fools —
Worship the Lord in spirit, not these stones!”

(Hindi Padavali of Sant Namdev, poem 47)
