5 Reasons to Stay in Santa Clara Over the Summer
Awesome Weather
Santa Clara is fortunate enough to have nice weather year-round. But just when you get that first taste of summer weather, finals week forces you back inside and before you know it the you’re packing up to go home.
When you stay over the summer you get to enjoy the summer sunshine that California is so well known for. Soak up some sun on the Saint Ignatius Lawn, read in the Mission Gardens, or lay out on the pool deck and see just how good summer looks on Santa Clara.
Explore the Bay Area
Between school, work and a social calendar, it can be easy to become secluded in the Santa Clara bubble during the academic year. Over the summer though, you have more time to get out and explore Silicon Valley and the Bay Area.
Whether it’s hopping on the CalTrain to San Francisco, taking a drive down the PCH, or even walking around San Jose, there are lots of restaurants, museums, and sites to be explored.
Get Ahead in your Classes
Sure, another round of classes might not be the most appealing idea after finishing up your spring finals, but taking classes during the summer does have a long list of benefits.
You might take classes over the summer to help you graduate early, to help alleviate your course load during the academic year, or just to take a interesting class with one of Santa Clara’s stellar professors that you normally wouldn’t have the opportunity to build into your schedule.
No Competition for Coveted Spots
Nothing is worse than making three laps around the library trying to find a seat during finals week. During the summer months, that’s not something you need worry about. Whether it’s a lounge chair at the pool, a treadmill in Malley or your favorite study spot on campus, the odds are most definitely in your favor.
Meeting New People
The summer months mean fewer students on campus, but that doesn’t mean there’s no one here. Without your regular friend groups, you’re forced to branch out and connect with fellow broncos that you otherwise might not run into.
Whether you’re living in on-campus housing with a mix of students from all years, or settling into your new off-campus digs and getting acquainted with your new neighbors, you’re bound to see some new faces and build friendships that will continue well past the summer months.
