Chilling Out at Hyatt City of Dreams Manila

The month of June marks the start of classes here in Manila and signals the start of the rainy season. After engaging myself with my new classmates for a week of fun, learning and playing, my family and I are ready for one-night staycation at Hyatt City of Dreams Manila.

Must-have selfie to mark the beginning of our stay at HCOD.

Our check-in counter is by the 7th floor instead of the one on the ground floor because daddy booked our party two Club level rooms. With our accommodation comes Club Lounge access — afternoon snacks, all day refreshments, cocktails at night and breakfast in the morning.

Kid Tip: No kids below the age of 12 are allowed at the Club Lounge during cocktail hours 6–8PM. Order their Fried Chicken (around $8) so you can have something delectable to munch on while waiting for the adults to finish their drinks, you won’t regret it.

I gotta have my customary picture on top of the bed, the ones were I was jumping came out blurry, here’s the best snapshot mama took.

We checked-in around 3PM and after getting our bags and things settled in our rooms, we all changed to our swim gear and headed down to the pool.

View from our room: Hyatt pool at the bottom, Nobu Hotel pool at the top

The water in the pool is set to a perfect warm temperature. After a quick shower, I jumped into the kiddie section of the pool where the water is up to my chest, just enough for mama to be comfortable leaving me by myself… oh yeah I’m wearing my vest, I’ll stay afloat no matter what.

After taking that very refreshing dip in the pool, we went back into our room to get ready for dinner. The room we are occupying is bigger than the regular rooms we’ve had in other hotels, even bigger than the one we had at the Grand Hyatt in San Francisco.

This room is 50 sq meters in size and housing 4 people does not feel cramp. The bed is very comfortable, nice and soft, gave me such a great sleep that I slept for 10 hours. Mama and daddy approve of its softness too.

With the curtains pulled in, the lighting in the room is warm and inviting and as Mama puts it, very relaxing. Once you pull the curtains to the side, the room gets filled with a lot of sunlight, thanks to the floor to ceiling windows.

Apples and oranges were waiting for us as we enter the room. Fresh welcome amenities are not standard in most hotels and this bonus is surely appreciated since those fruits are both my favorites. Also, since the staff knew that a toddler like me is staying over, they had a box of marshmallows and cookies waiting for me in the room as well. Sorry, I can’t provide a photo of it, things happened so fast :D.

Kid Tip: If you don’t see the Kid’s Amenity (marshmallows and cookies) in your room, it won’t hurt to ask the concierge, especially if the possible end result is savoring those sweets.

The channel options on the television set is wide and has a great variation from sports to movies to news and of course kid-friendly channels. They have On-Demand channels too.

Connecting to their wireless network is so easy a tech savvy 3 year old can do it himself. Internet connection is fast and is available everywhere in the property.

The designers of this hotel did not scrimp on the bathroom size either. The bathroom felt luxurious and inside we had a separate shower, double vanity and a soaking tub. Three people can move freely in this bathroom without bumping into each other.

Double vanities — nice!
Soaking Tub — whattttt!!! Nice.
Meh — I got a shower in my house, I’ll take the tub.

Recently, some of the hotels we’ve been visiting had gone away with the minibar, but not Hyatt COD. It has a loaded minibar and chicha (snacks) counter. There is nothing in the minibar really that entices me, most of what’s in there are beverages that are not safe for a kid to consume, well except for the juice.

The room also has the standard safe for precious belongings, iron and ironing board (must have according to daddy) and hair dryer (must have according to mama).

We had our breakfast at the CAFÉ where the buffet spread was enormous. They had food from different cuisines — Filipino, American, Japanese and Chinese (probably some more).

I enjoyed the bacon and pancakes and finished off my meal with a hot Taho, yum!

It was a very pleasant stay and the staff are very courteous and always smiling. The Club Lounge is a great place to hang out and while away the time. I enjoyed their Iced Tea and I’m pretty sure Mama and Daddy had their fill of good coffee too.

I highly recommend this place for a staycation. Santi’s itchy little feet will surely come back to this place.
