What’s in a name?

What does your name mean? Do you say it like Naa-karma, Knack-ama? Is it meant to be a tongue twister? Are you guys even Japanese?

Good questions, especially considering we’ve ignored normal convention when it comes to naming a company — keep it short, memorable, easy to spell and easy to pronounce. But hey, we like being unconventional.

So what does it actually mean?

San = Three (that’s us, the three founders)
Tora = Tiger (we’re based throughout asia, you know — the tiger economies)
Nakama = Friend (or rather, really close friends that share common goals and values)

Put more simply, Santora Nakama means Three Tiger Friends.

A name was born. Three founding partners bonded over sake, sushi, tech and a love of all things Japanese. Specifically, the Japanese notion of “Shokunin Kishitsu”, a phrase that roughly translates to describe the spirit of a master craftsman. Someone who brings commitment and a sense of pride to how they engage with their work. It involves a desire to become better at what you do and how you do it — to continually learn and grow.

No, we’re not Japanese. No, we’re not based in Japan. No, we’re not necessarily master craftsmen (not yet anyway), but we happily give a nod to those that have come before us, inspiringly arriving at mastery via continual improvement.

โตร่า = เสือ (ทวีปเอเซียขึ้นชื่อเรื่อง 4 เสื้อแห่งเอเซีย)

นากามะ = เพื่อน (หรือเพื่อน หรือครอบครัวที่สนิทกันและมีเป้าหมายเดียวกัน)

หรือเต็มๆก็คือ เพื่อนเสือสามตัว

ชื่อแนวๆได้เกิดขึ้นแล้ว ผ่านการที่พาร์ทเนอร์ผู้คลั่งไคล้ทุกสิ่งอย่างที่เกี่ยวกับญี่ปุ่นทั้งสามคนได้มานั่งกินสาเกและซูชิกันระหว่างคุยเรื่อง เทคโนโลจี้
