In October SAP and SAP.iO hosted innovation workshops for SAP’s Fashion Customer Council and SAP’s Consumer Products Customer Council. The councils represent a select group of SAP’s customers from the Fashion and Consumer Products industries and is an opportunity for the attendees to discuss current trends and developments in their industry.

Each session had three SAP.iO startups participate and the workshop was designed to be highly interactive for the customers and startups.

For the session the customers were divided into three separate teams, each representing a different organization within a fictitious fashion or consumer products brand. The organizations were tasked with developing a unique perspective on how they could better leverage innovation to be more competitive while spending time with each of the three SAP.iO startups for market research.

The Fashion Council members spent time with BigThinx to learn about technology for virtual try-ons and digital showrooms, Smartpixels to learn about creating 3D product visualizations for e-commerce, and Sorga to learn about material traceability for sustainability and consumer engagement.

The Consumer Products Council members had the opportunity to spend time with Genlots to learn how machine learning can optimize inbound materials planning, Shippeo to learn how to get real-time multimodal transportation visibility, and SoPost to learn about a new approach to product sampling with a focus on relevance, data, and analytics.

At the conclusion of the workshop each of the groups presented their recommendations in front of the whole council and a winning team was chosen.

The high level of engagement between the customers during the workshop was seen as a way to learn from each other while at the same time gaining knowledge about the startup applications. One of the participants had this to say about the session

“SAP.iO put on a dynamic session with three of their startups during the recent SAP Fashion Council. It was a super engaging session and we experienced firsthand some of the exciting innovations SAP is adding to its ecosystem”

Ralph Vibhustien, Executive Director — Global GIS Retail The Estée Lauder Companies Inc.
