6. Weekend trip

While during weekdays, we mostly work in Arusha, having meetings with interesting people, doing market research, on weekends we tend to discover the town’s surroundings on day trips, or go to safaris as well.

Spending a considerable amount of time in my head I don’t always feel the drive to explore a new place and take a photo of some weird thing, or sit in to the latest food bar downtown just to see if they roast the burger differently from the other ones opened last month. Although sometimes I just want to stretch my comfort zone and then I find myself in situations, I never imagined I will ever be a part of.

This weekend we have chosen a canoe tour to Lake Duluti, which is a - based on local people’s estimation- 700m deep pond, probably the result of some volcanic activity. There is a literally floating island on the surface serving as a home of different waterbird species. We have seen so tiny birds, that it didn't even make sense to capture them with a phone camera, even from some meters away. Believe me, they were cute and colorful. Monkeys used to play around on the trees, although, not the time when we were there. We could spot and disturb more lizards however, who were having sunbath on wood logs near the lakeside.

Wiew to the lake from the hill, and the forest falling into the water.

Karla, Alex and I. We had a really nice guide with us too.
Varanuses (Monitor Lizards) hanging out while we approach.
