In limited overs cricket, the advent of power-play has meant the matches have become high scoring. Power-play imposes fielding restrictions, hence batters / batsmen can score heavily during this period by taking some calculated risks and there is a good chance of spoiling the bowling figures. However, there is also a chance of finding a top edge and holding out to a fielder. Some of the techniques used by bowlers to contain batters during this period are bowling in the block hole, bowling a wide yorker or a slow bouncer. In general, the faster you bowl during this period, there is a high chance that the ball disappears outside the ground faster. Captains have even used spinners during this time with good results — some of them have even got the batsmen out by bowling a wide delivery enticing the batsman out of the crease and thus getting stumped.

Team GAP — SAP has been on the job over the last 4 days actively listening to the GAPpies about GAP’s vision, mission, values, product portfolio, academic curriculum, marketing and communications strategy, hiring strategy, sales and financial performance. We also had a chance to talk to the founders and know from them their personal stories which inspired them to be on board for this cause. The values that GAP Institute imbibe clearly tell us that here is an institute that is driven by passion than anything else. With 4 different course offerings, GAP Institute is on track to establish itself as a niche player addressing the needs of the students graduating in Vietnam and bridging the gap between the academic curriculum and industry needs and thus producing a generation of Globally Acknowledged Professionals. To have a greater impact on society, GAP Institute has to scale up and cater to the needs of a wider range of students in Vietnam than it is doing today especially with its current business model of subsidizing one needy student for every 2 paid students. But is the organization ready and compatible to grow its business in its present form? We from the GAP — SAP team is here to study that and then conjure up a plan of action to make it happen. “You are Vietnamese, then how do you speak such good English?” — this is not only what has pained the Academic Director at GAP Institute and inspired him to join GAP, but it also tells us that the rest of the world’s views about Vietnamese people are one of very stereotypical such that Vietnamese are identified with unskilled labor or else “blue collar” worker. GAP wants to change that perception through a continuous flow of success stories about its students and prove to the world Vietnamese people can also get into “white collar jobs”

The information coming our way has been quite a lot, and we as a team have the unenviable task of sorting that and determining what needs to be dealt with (struggles and wishes)and what can be realistically achieved (impact vs. effort). This will also help us to finalize the SoW of our project before the end of the week.

Lots to discover for the team (Arindam, Evi and Nadine) in the Discovery phase

GAP — SAP team has been working fast to consolidate findings, identifying problem areas and also gauging the impact and the effort required to solve the problem. We are continuously aligning with the CEO and the Academic Director on the findings and interpretations. With too many post-its to consider and deliberate, an occasional coffee / watermelon / coconut break has helped to get us refreshed. Watermelon juice and Coconut water are vying to be the official drink for our team! :-)

Post-its, coffee, coconut and water melon — acting like fuel for our project engine! :-)

It’s been a fascinating experience to move around the city (be it our drive / walk to and from the customer office or our dinner at different restaurants) and experience its culture, vibes and cuisine. And this fascinating journey continues over the rest of April. Team Mekong rocks!

Food…. and places to roam around in the evening

Watch out for my next story coming your way soon titled: Fielding Restrictions are off!
