Every new opportunity is an adventure waiting to unfold. Each challenge navigated, every lesson learnt, and every success achieved adds a vibrant color to canvas of the journey.

Our Social Sabbatical trip to Montevideo, Uruguay was a testimony to this. Michael, Rexie and I embarked on an eventful journey with our lovely host team, Forja Del Sur, to understand and learn about the country’s waste management sector and circular economy. Our engagement with Forja provided us with valuable insights into evolving dynamics of the market and current policies around the same.

Our research and multiple interviews with team at Forja Del Sur, industry experts and stakeholders helped us navigate the intricacies of the waste management sector with an emphasis on Plan Vale, the upcoming directive plan for waste management in Uruguay. More clarity on the future outcomes from this plan enabled us to have productive discussions with Forja Del Sur to align their business strategies with market demands in tandem with their current strengths to unlock new opportunities for future growth including international partnerships, innovative recycling and repurposing solutions and introduction to repair and refurbishment to continue their aim of creating triple impact everyday.

People are key aspects of every organization, and great businesses are created from the passion and compassion of the workforce. We witnessed the dedication and warmth of team Forja Del Sur every day during our assignment and they are testimony to strength, resilience and persistence. Growth of people in the organization translates to the business growth. We strategized on upskilling avenues of the team to streamline tasks and foster an agile work environment conducive to adaption and realization of full potential. Our sweet quick win was training an employee to take over marketing and social media role with enthusiasm. It was also eye-opening for us to look into the social impact that Forja Del Sur creates everyday for the community which we mapped to a social impact table for them to leverage for showcasing their abilities and great work.

We are grateful to people at Forja Del Sur for being welcoming and patient with us throughout the stint. We witnessed the true strength of collaboration which transcends countries, cultures, and language barriers. Heartfelt thanks to our wonderful translator Miranda who helped us navigate the language challenges and be our local guide and a lovely friend.

This wonderful opportunity by SAP and Pyxera Global was a great adventure of venturing out of our comfort zones and day jobs to work towards something new and create a meaningful impact. We are hopeful and excited to witness the positive impact that Forja Del Sur will create in the days to come as it continues on the transformative path of success.

We signed off from Montevideo with our bags full of learnings, memories and Dulce De Leche. Cheers to the great time spent in Uruguay and the adventures that lie ahead! 🍾
