We recently kicked off a new cycle for SAP’s Social Sabbatical for Global Engagement. The program is part of SAP Corporate Social Responsibility’s (CSR) commitment to year-round volunteering.

With this effort, SAP clearly shows its leadership and commitment to its purpose of helping the world run better and improve people’s lives.

The Cycle 2018/2019 is starting with two locations: Yerevan, Armenia, and Quito, Ecuador. Closely supported by our Partner, Pyxera Global.

I am very proud and excited that I was selected to participate on this program and also for being part of the Armenia team #MightyPomegranates. For the next four weeks, I will be working with 11 extremely talented SAP colleagues, helping to power Armenian non-profit organisations through digital inclusion.

Why I volunteer

I believe involvement is the best catalyst for change.

There are many ways to contribute to a better world, but I find it more effective outside the office; talking to people, experiencing the culture, understanding the issues and working hand in hand with people willing to make things happen.

By volunteering, I also expect to learn valuable lessons that I can bring back to my daily work. Volunteering is about helping, contributing and giving back. But is also a journey of learning and personal growth.

Armenia

We will be based in Yerevan, the 2,800-year-old capital of Armenia; Yes, 2,800!…that’s older than Rome.

A vibrant city of over one million residents full of young dynamic people where hospitality makes a mark. Armenia is a country rich in culture, history and tradition.

Armenia have huge potential and is full of people actively looking to advance their country.

The twelve of us will be working with 4 local non-profit Armenian organisations:

Enterprise Incubator Foundation

Dasaran

Teach for Armenia

Impact Hub

Take the time to have a look at their work; they are doing some really good job in advancing technology and education in the country.

My Mates

There are twelve people from SAP side taking part in this Social Sabbatical for Armenia, and I am very proud of being part of such a diverse and talented group from SAP.

Here are our team stats:

My Team’s Challenge

I will be working with two very talented colleagues: Dan Close from SAP Concur and Ivana Tomasic Martinic from SAP Global HR.

Our focus would be working with the Enterprise Incubator Foundation and two of their technology centers:

Gyumri Technology Center

Vanadzor Technology Center

I am looking forward to working with all these great people and contribute to strengthening their technology community on these locations. This country is full of young independent entrepreneurs looking to make things better and I am eager to be able to contribute to this effort they are so passionate about.
