Work, culture and sightseeing

Three quarters of our Social Sabbatical are already over, which means that in a couple of days, we have to present and handover our deliverables to the clients and wave goodbye to Dakar and Senegal.

Week three was focusing on improving and enhancing our deliverables so that we can finish them in early week four. For our customer, we decided to deliver them quick wins, that can be implemented immediately as well as short-term, mid-term and long-term solutions.
For instance using shared folders in google drive can be used immediately, similar to the CTIC Idea box, where employees can enter and vote for new ideas.
Short-term targets are for instance the usage of enhanced surveys before and after each class, to track feedback and potentially improve the offerings. Short- to mid-term solution would be using the google suite tools for data entry, management and analysis and embedding all those documents into an own internal portal.
Long-term, we came up with a first version of a database layout, in which they can enter, manage and analyze there data in an even better and custom-specific way. However, this is something that requires more time to be further specified and then also implemented.

Besides work, this week we also took the chance again to discover places in and around Dakar and to get in touch with people from different places.

We went to the Monument de la Renaissance africaine, the tallest statue in Africa. First we had the chance to visit the museum with sculptures from Senegalese artists and historic information about the monument. Then we went up into the “head” of the statue to have a wonderful view over Dakar.

Also a trip to the island of Ngor was on the plan, where a lot of artists work and transform everything into art. The island is only 400 meters from the mainland, so you can swim there — however, we decided to take a pirogue to get there (together with 40–50 other people). On the way back it was a smaller boat with more comfortable seats.

Impressions from Ngor

On Sunday, some of us went to Bandia Reserve to see animals from Senegal, but also other places in Africa. For 1.5–2 hours, we drove in a jeep through the park and spotted the animals from far away and sometimes as close as just a few meters.

Next Week is the final week for our assignment. So we have to come to an end with our work and ensure, that the deliverable and know how transfer to the clients is completed. On Friday there will be an official final presentation in our hotel — for which all 4 groups including client representatives come together.
