How to establish a good morning routine

The alarm rings, the snooze is hit, again and again and sometimes again. Suddenly a look at the time, panic, quick shower, jump into clothes, grab bag, run and barely catch the train, grab a coffee on the way and go to class with an empty stomach. Any student can relate to this morning routine. We are often so wrapped up with studying and doing assignments that we do not realize that a healthy morning routine can go a long way in feeling more energized and having a productive day. Here are some helpful tips to be more prepared in the morning and to feel energized.

  1. Plan your morning.

While we are all busy in the evenings and probably just want to sleep, it pays off to plan your morning. This could only take a few minutes. It’s as simple as things like setting your alarm, packing your bag, laying out your clothes, planning breakfast. Having everything ready in the morning will help you save a lot of time. Haven’t we all searched for a clean pair of socks in utter panic?

2. Eat a healthy breakfast.

I can barely think if I don’t have a proper breakfast. A healthy breakfast is so important for overall health and feeling energized. It will help you keep focused and revive you in the morning. The American Heart Association reported that breakfast-eaters have lower rates of heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. It’s worth investing into a good breakfast.

3. Exercise.

Many successful people wake up and the first thing they do is exercise. Why it’s important is because it gets your blood flowing and will wake you up. It’ll also make you feel more energized. Try to hit the gym, go for a quick jog or power walk. If you don’t like leaving the house in the morning, try some yoga or even stretches. Anything to get your blood pressure up.

4. Reflect and set goals.

Take a few moments and reflect on the day ahead. Set an intention for the day. Even if that intention is only a small thing like treating yourself with kindness. Pull out your calendar and set goals for the day. It could be a list of things you need to get done for a project or homework, but this will help you feel more energized and confident starting the day.
