Vanishing Point Cover

For the cover of an issue analyzing the impact of Oakland’s gentrification on Oakland artists in the wake of the Ghost Ship fire, I took a photo of a mural on a building in downtown Oakland. I photoshopped in an altered creative commons image of a construction hook, the kind that hangs from cranes. I put an opaque image of hanging fabric, and traced the shadows of the wrinkles to make it look like the hook was pulling the building up. I took a separate picture of the sky and photoshopped the new sky in, which created the space for the title on the print edition:
