Broken Heart

Slow and reverent,
Quiet and filled with peace.
As simple as fresh snow blankets the earth.
Yet still and complicated as a single isolated
snowflake.

A heart is broken.
Pieces shatter slowly,
Twinkling to the frozen earth below.
Flickers of light catching
A storm of red hot hurt.
Flaming and scattered —
What is left, violates the
sacred white virgin snow.

Then, in the silent distance,
Sunlight slips through birch tree branches.
Majestic and bright,
Slow and reverent,
Quiet and filled with peace.

Simplicity is restored.
Shards of anguish and mortality
repaired.
Quietly,
Reverently,
Peacefully.
