Note to Self

Dear, silly Kaity, all you knew about Bali was that it was hot and people go there to do yoga sometimes. You had no idea what you were getting yourself in to. Did you realize how much sunscreen it takes to survive as a ginger near the equator? You thought you would learn some cool stuff about art and culture, and come home a little sunburned with some souvenirs. You didn’t realize how much this trip would change you. You aren’t healed by any means, but you’ve definitely left a lot of the pain of this last year in the ocean, in the air of the temples, and in the holy water that was poured over your head. You might have to accept that something spiritual, or even religious, may have helped you. Did you ever think you’d be saying that? You were able to have time to think, while doing nothing, without having a panic attack and running away. Do you remember the last time you were able to do that? Cherish that feeling.

Did you ever think you’d spend a month in a foreign country, hiking and jumping off waterfalls, and getting tattoos? You’ve done so many things that you wouldn’t have done, and for being a hermit, it’s impressive. Remember how good that felt, and remember to do more things that make you a little scared. Life begins outside your comfort zone. After the year you had, it’s good to make the best of every moment, because you don’t know when your time is up.

You love your technology, and coming to a country that enjoys life so much more without it was an adjustment. Living without constant Wi-Fi, or plugins that work made blogging and projects more difficult. Learning to be more adaptable is something you should do more often.

Remember your time here. Remember the way it felt to get your happiness back, and to meet so many wonderful people and see so many wonderful things. Get out of your comfort zone and enjoy your life to the absolute fullest.
