My experience with driving an electric vehicle after 1.5 years of ownership

About years and a half ago, I made the transition to drive an electric vehicle (EV). I won’t reveal the EV make/model because this article is not a product review. This article is an experience review of driving an EV as a commuter vehicle and a weekend family transport.

I will however identify the approximate cost to provide a realistic assessment to readers. According to KBB, the price of a new car in January 2020 was $38,747 USD. The EV that I bought falls very close to this average, including all fees, taxes, registration, and so on. I also qualified for a tax credit, albeit a small one because I signed the contract in December 2019 with a January 2020 delivery date. The particular vehicle company was at its tail end for Federal tax credits, with most of it being distributed by the time I signed the contract.

Before purchasing an EV, I drove a 2002 Toyota Land Cruiser. It was a very reliable car even at 18 years of age and nearly 200k miles clocked. That thing kept going with a simple oil change and fluid check once a year. It kept me and my family safe through accidents without any structural damage to the vehicle.
