“I’m going to get up early and run every morning to lose that extra 10 lbs.”

“I’m going to read a book a month.”

“I’m going to find the perfect job.”

Now is the time of year that people begin to dream of all the things they are going to do in the new year to build a better them. If you can’t decide what your New Year’s resolution should be, here are 50 to choose from.

Do you remember what your career goals were for 2016? Statistically only 8% of us keep our New Year’s Resolution which means the vast majority haven’t thought about it since January. Regardless, when you reflect on where you were at this time last year, have you grown or have you receded? There is no such thing as staying still which is what catches most people off guard. Life happens and their career is just something they do for 8 hours a day, not something that they are caring for and growing.

You have an opportunity to be in the 8%. Below are a few ideas on what to do over the last few weeks of the year to make sure 2017 is the best yet.

1. Do you know what the prefect career opportunity looks like?

· Understanding the characteristics of what a perfect job looks like gets you a step closer to finding it. Write down the characteristics that are important to you and bring it out when an opportunity comes your way.

· Go to www.indeed.com or www.careerbuilder.com and read job descriptions. This will help verify if your skill set is in demand and can boost your confidence once you seen the number of openings in your field. It also helps to know how your skill set is being asked for so that your resume can match the ask.

2. Who would you call?

If you lost your job today, do you know what you would do or who you would call? Most people don’t ever want to think about that so they choose to look the other way. Networking isn’t for when you need a job, it’s for when you don’t. The worst time to look for an attorney is when you need one….the same goes for if you lost your job. Be proactive with the business relationships you build.

3. When was the last time you Googled your name?

It’s always better to know than to not know. I can guarantee that when you look for a job that whomever you are interviewing with will.

Like Jeffrey Gitomer says “All things being equal, people do business with people they like. All things being unequal, people do business with people they like.” That only happens over time.
