Bitcoin has turned 10 years old today. Let that sink in for a second. If you do not realise what a historical day today is then let me reiterate it for you. Today is 10 years that a network of random computers across the world have worked in lockstep to maintain the integrity of a currency that physically exists nowhere and everywhere at the same time and cannot be stopped, controlled or inflated by any authority including the one that is responsible for developing this system.

If you do not realise how historic this is then I’d just recommend you to keep watching from the corner of your eye. Over the next decade you are going to witness something unprecedented in the history of our species. More and more people are going to start storing a portion of their wealth in a piece of asset that survives across space and time and is not affected by the actions of governments and beauractras who are effectively insured against the economy. If you don’t understand Bitcoin then think of it as a locker containing gold whose keys you can store in your head.

Bitcoin’s first ten years have been like a malnourished baby in East Africa. Its chances of survival were abysmally low but somehow it did. And now that it is ten and has warded off all the tropical diseases, its journey into the troublesome teens begins. While it has warded off both network and political attacks, expect to hear more intricate narratives that try and discourage you from holding it. Pay heed at your own peril. Bitcoin will metamorphose into a well grown, well rounded individual over the next decade and I look forward to watching it grow up while being a pain in the ass for the status quo.
