In this blog, I will be writing about the effects climate change is having on our planet along with the climate action goals the UN has in place to combat these effects. I will be focusing in on goal 13.3 “Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning”. I believe that education and awareness on climate change is crucial to the overall mission. People need to be informed with what is going on within our planet so we as individuals can do our part in helping this world crisis. With proper education on climate change, impact reductions will come almost naturally. People will start to become more conscious on what is good and bad in their daily lifestyles and can make changes. Climate action is a group effort, and every person can make a difference.

I am personally interested in the climate action goal because I am scared for our species future. We are negatively affecting the only planet we have and eventually we will no longer be able to survive our affects. I once saw a poster that said, “there is no planet B”. That resonated with me. Basically, we have no fall-back option. If climate action does not work, I fear for our planets survival. On the bright side though, if we can hit our goals and solve these issues then we will have a truly beautiful place to live and innovate for years to come. Who knows, eventually humans might find a “planet B”.

Everyone who can read will benefit from this blog. This blog will be talking about all the issues going on with climate change as we speak along with tips and ideas on how we can innovate past the flaws we created. This blog will help everyone develop a better understanding about the planet we all share and love.

Somethings that I am already familiar about climate change frighten me. 2019 was the second warmest year on record. Along with greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide levels growing to new records in our atmosphere. On a positive note, greenhouse gas emissions are projected to drop about 6% in 2020 due to slowdowns from covid. This proves that there is a way to save this planet. We need to stay on target with the climate action goals so we can save our planet.

Some important questions that I will be researching for this blog are

- What exactly is the Paris Agreement?

- Why have emissions of carbon dioxide grown 50% globally since 1990?

- What technologies today can we use to battle climate change?

These questions interest me because first off, the Paris agreement has had lots of controversy over it and I think its important that everyone fully understands it. Carbon emissions growing 50% in the last 30 years is outrageous. Finding the root of that could easily be a quick win for climate action. Lastly, we are living in 2021. Technology is around today that we have never seen before, for an example artificial intelligence is a new innovation. I want to see what exactly is being used to help speed up the process of saving our planet before it is too late.
