Rediscovering Holy Week: An Invitation

Create. Be. And Rediscover Holy Week.

Holy Week, in the Christian Tradition, is upon us. Likewise, is a global pandemic.

We have found ourselves thrown into life as we have not experienced it before. Our lives are consumed with being online and engaging in social media for school, work, banking, entertainment, food delivery and shopping, communicating with others, and finding companionship during enforced social distancing. Most of our “engagement” with social media is passive… we sit, we view, we scroll, we listen, we just take in unimaginable amounts of information.

Our hope for you during Holy Week is that you discover ways to creatively engage.

Yes, this offering adds to the numerous times you will “engaged” social media today. However, this time the invitation is for you to creatively engage through this Play-dough-votion. You are invited to view daily themes of Holy Week, read Scripture, listen to songs of life, death, and resurrection, and then, create. Be.

Create an image using play dough of how the art, Scripture, and music speaks to your heart. Then, take a picture and send it to hvlarr@bu.edu before 3PM of the same day so we can create a gallery that displays all of your creations together.

Create space for mindless and productive wandering.

Create an avenue for communicating, feeling, seeing, sensing, intuiting differently than the usual.

Create and open up possibilities of being molded and reshaped during Holy Week.

Be mindful of your body — how the music tickles your soul, how the words wash over you, what the image evokes for you.

Be present in a discipline that invites you to move from passivity to flowing and being lead the Spirit.

Be childlike and playful.

Be willing to be lead by your imagination.

Be open to the unfolding mystery that this week offers.

Be surprised by the creativity you can summon when you just let it be.

Create, be, and rediscover Holy Week.
