Some vocal teachers are quite firm in their stance to not provide singing lessons to kids. And many times, they are quite right in doing so- some children lack focus and are unable to stand still and learn how to properly train their voice.

But, that doesn’t mean all kids are unprepared for the rewards that singing lessons can bring. In my experience, there are several young singers out there that are more ambitious and talented than adults. And even if they aren’t naturally talented, children can still reap the benefits from singing. Here’s why:

It’s a Confidence Builder

So many shy kids really come out of their shell once they start singing lessons. Through singing, they learn to relax, make their movements bigger, and create stronger sounds. These lessons then carry over to the stage, as well as their daily lives.

It’s a Brain Builder

Kids are not just learning songs in their singing lessons- a good teacher will also incorporate music theory and ear training at the same time. Thus, children are learning to not only be a better singer, but also a complete musician.

It’s a Discipline Builder

When a young student learns to prepare a song, they are acquiring skills they’ll always use in their life, such as the concept of accountability. Being accountable is a part of any instrument that a student pursues, and singing is no exception.

And finally..

It’s Just Fun!

In my opinion, this is the most important part- singing is something that these kids have chosen to purse, and it’s imperative that they have a way of expressing themselves. If singing lessons are something that a parent has chosen for their own child, then it would be a different matter. However, if a child truly feels enriched through singing, then they will experience joy throughout the whole process. Although they may not develop their full voice for many years, children will learn valuable techniques to train their voice that they can later use for their entire life.
