Congratulations Jesse

You’re correct, you just have to believe

Since leaving the 7th Street Gym

All you’ve accomplished is hard to perceive

Being trained by Ed Sharkey & Ron Peterson

Who taught you the wrestling game

You took what you learned

And ran without shame

Vern Gagne & Wally Karbo

Wouldn’t give you a chance

Now Vern is down on his luck

And Wally’s left the dance

To get a chance to wrestle

To Kansas City you had to go

But it didn’t take you long

To become the headliner of the show

While the other guys went drinking

You stayed in your hotel room

Practicing in front of a mirror

Teaching yourself to become a goon

But the victim of all that practice

Was the loss of Jim Janus who all of us knew

And isn’t Adrian Adonis laughing some where

His tag team partner got elected Governor out of the blue

When you came back to Minnesota

And opened up a workout gym

Making movies and singing

All in the interim

Then some politician got careless

Trying to rezone some beautiful land

You started out by protesting

And then took full command

You decided to run for Mayor

And damned if you didn’t win

You shook up the status quo

Then you gave them that trademark sarcastic grin

You served out your term

And moved on to talk radio

It was apparent from the start

You’d be a hit on the show

Plain talking Jesse Ventura

A man with a cause

Speaking for ordinary people

And basking in their applause

Your life has taken many turns

Since nineteen seventy-five

When you drove a red pick-up truck

With a strong will to survive

You were dating Terry

Both of you young and in love

Then you became the Governor of Minnesota

Whom the status quo is wary of

You were on all the covers

Of magazines world wide

And people you didn’t know

Wanted to be at your side

You’ve been a great role model

To the kids at Champlin Park High

In football you demanded they work hard

But then you explained why

Stay with your instincts, Jesse

They’ve obviously served you well

The heights which you’ll achieve

Not even you can tell

The common man’s train is departing

No one knows what they’ll find

But everyone is scrambling aboard

To ride with Jesse Ventura, also known as the mind!!
