Deforestation in the Amazon

Here are snapshots of a changing forest, perhaps for the worse.

The image on the left shows the western Amazon, bordering Bolivia, in 1984. The image on the right shows the same place, in 2016. Notice how the deep green is gone, and replaced by a lighter shade of green, with much more brown. The rainforest looks like its been replaced by either grassland, or some other crop cultivation.

The images show the northern Amazon, bordering Guyana. Notice how there are tracks that fan out from the main road. Often, the road is the start of civilisation and the end of nature.

I guess we really need to have a conversation about development and nature.
