The past 12 months , Scalar Angels , did an experimentation matrix in partnership with Andaa Capital , launched a new venture launchpad — The Scalar Angels Launchpad is a free, entirely remote, four-month-long immersive programme for helping Startups refine their business model and help prepare them for investment readiness.

We were inspired by the student startup ecosystem to reflect on the pain point founders face while helping get their ideas to product-market fit. The venture capital industry has a lot of systemic barriers that hinder a lot of startups in underrepresented areas from entering and also thriving in the industry.

It has been a year of continued progress and scale. In the spirit of the season, we would love to share our success stories …

Our goals

We created our investment thesis to focus on three areas which include :
Logistics, Gaming, and Agriculture. Our goal was to help the startups in our cohort refine their business model from scratch and take them to investment readiness. Post cohort we are pleased to announce that these startups are investment-ready.

Our metrics

We measure our impact in mulitiple ways and here are some metrics we track :

We have graduated 2 startups on our portfolio as they were selected from a pool of 20 startups as the selected startups were the ones whose use-case fitted our investment thesis.

These startups have gone on to achieve greater things and an example is mybetaride which was recently recognized by Hustle Fund as one of the top 100 promising startups in the incoming year. A great feat for them as they carefully look in-depth into 2022.

All of the startups after the cohort had a working prototype as they had to undergo different iterations cycles, tweak their business models to achieve product-market fit, and get to scale.

We grew our mentor network to over 15 mentors from various companies across Africa and this would increase in the new year ( 2022 )

We have also added notable names in the venture capital landscape and angel investing landscape to our advisory board.
N.B — These names are been withheld from the public.

We would love to thank our mentors for the man-hours they put in making sure the cohort was a success as we hope their long-lasting impact on the startups would go on to have a ripple effect on the ecosystem.

This anniversary marks the beginning of our journey to help scale startups from scratch to scaleups in the SSA region. We would continue to empower these startups with the resources, skills, and networks they need to scale and make a meaningful impact on the ecosystem.
