Investment Premise

In recent years, consumer demand for increased quantity and variety of food & beverage options has skyrocketed — driving a $5.9T industry. At the current pace, the food & beverage industry will require 45% more energy to meet agricultural demand alone. In addition, there is an expected labor shortage of 2.1M manufacturing workers by 2030. To sustainably support our vast and rapidly growing population’s needs, the future of comestible manufacturing must be autonomous.

Alex Bromage, the CEO/CTO & Founder of Passtur, is pioneering autonomous, modular, and decentralized factories for the food & beverage industry. Passtur’s manufacturing system can sustain 10x more SKUs per square foot of production, decreases overhead by at least 60%, and cuts opex by 90% when compared to today’s plants.

Beyond the numbers, Redbud VC invested in Alex, a veteran engineer who has a unique insight into food & beverage manufacturing. After listening to pain points from customers for over 15 years at Tetrapack, Alex used his unrivaled intellectual curiosity and focus to start Passtur. His superpower is staying disciplined and executing in the face of financial constraints and operational complexity. Redbud’s hope is that empowering Passtur with capital will unlock Alex’s intended impact on the future of food and humanity in a big way.
