Scape Technologies: the Next Chapter

Reflecting on the last three years and the journey ahead…

Three years ago, my co-founder and I set out on a mission to connect the physical and digital world.

This is a fundamental challenge because, over the next decade, a new era of ‘spatial computing’ will require devices to understand more about their physical environments than ever before.

We believe this is the most exciting challenge in computing today, as we begin to transition from computers that are accessed through screens and keyboards, to intelligent devices that understand and interact with the world around us.

Early 2017: Our first ‘Rock Moster’ demo, developed before ARKit was announced.

Since 2016, we have made great progress towards this goal of connecting the digital and physical world, by building the Vision Engine — a unique 3D reconstruction pipeline, capable of building world-scale 3D maps from low-quality imagery data.

The maps generated by Scape’s Vision Engine can be used to precisely determine the location of any camera device, with more accuracy than GPS, and are automatically updated to reflect changes in the environment.

On top of these ‘Evolving Maps’, we built ScapeKit, a multi-platform SDK for augmented reality, that allows digital content to be anchored to specific geographical locations. This was recently used to bring the AT&T Stadium in Dallas to life in the first-ever public demonstration of 5G-enabled Augmented Reality.

2019: The first large-scale AR-Cloud demonstration, developed by Nexus Studios for AT&T Dallas Cowboys in collaboration with Samsung

Today, Scape Technologies is embarking on an exciting new adventure and consequentially, we will be deprecating our API.

On behalf of the entire team, we’d like to thank everyone who has supported us in getting this far, especially the active community of developers who have been working alongside us to build the future.

We’d also like to thank our investors LocalGlobe, Mosaic, Fly VC, Entrepreneur First, and angels, who have at every occasion amplified our ambitions to create meaningful impact.

Finally, we’d like to say a huge thank you to the entire Scape Technologies team. Together, we’ve truly pushed the boundaries of large-scale 3D reconstruction and we are immensely proud of what has been achieved to-date. There are more amazing technical challenges out there for us to solve and we’re looking forward to amplifying our efforts at an even larger scale.

We hope you will find the next chapter from the Scape Technologies team to be as interesting and meaningful as we do!

Game On! ✌️
