For Those Shocked at Disney-fied Deadpool, What About the ALIENS Franchise?

You won’t believe it…. But Disney even has plans for our favorite facehuggers from Hell.

It’s not April Fool’s. That day’s long gone. You’re reading this correctly: Disney is actually interested in pushing the Alien franchise forward. And you’re actually getting this information from the man himself: Ridley Scott!

Here’s What the Man Had to Say About the House of Mouse Taking on the B*tch

You get to the point when you say, ‘Okay, it’s dead in the water. I think Alien vs. Predator was a daft idea. And I’m not sure it did very well or not, I don’t know. But it somehow brought down the beast. And I said to them, ‘Listen, you can resurrect this, but we have to go back to scratch and go to a prequel, if you like.’ So we go to Prometheus, which was not bad actually. But you know, there’s no alien in it, except the baby at the end that showed, itself, the possibility. I mean, it had the silhouette of an alien, right? The alien [origin concept] is uniquely attached to Mother Nature. It simply comes off a wood beetle that will lay eggs inside some unsuspecting insect. And in so doing, the form of the egg will become the host for this new creature. That’s hideous. But that was what it was. And you can’t keep repeating that because the joke gets boring.

Ridley Scott continued on even referencing Star Trek and how the franchise continued to evolve….

So here we are, 50 years later, God bless them, they’ve kept [Star Trek] alive and kept going through its evolution. But it’s harder to keep the beast going for that long. I think it’s just tough. The joke wears out. Once you’ve seen it twice, three times, it’s no longer frightening.

And then finally:

Go on, leave that behind, and see where it can evolve. So we’re looking where we’re going to evolve.

So Wait a Second…. Is He Implying That We May See Future ALIEN Installments?

By golly, yes, indeed, he is. But you might be panicking at what he’s saying that the “joke wears out,” meaning the whole scary “beast” thing, chest-burster action (and, of course, the gore).

Far be it from Disney to go that far (although it’s been already mentioned that there will undoubtedly be a place for true-blue raunchy Deadpool in the very near future). However, know this — Disney’s no stranger to dark places. Just look at the cult classic and obscure The Black Hole, for instance.

That’s some serious content. Undoubtedly the Magic Kingdom can bring it in terms of the horror element, but nothing too overtly vicious or visceral by any stretch. But who’s to say Disney can’t do that pretty soon? The company has evolved.

Are we all for that? Or is this now going way too far??
