IoT has brought a tremendous change in daily life. Each and everyday new IoT products are being launched by various companies. IoT have many applications in daily life. Smart-devices are most demanded by the consumers.

Applications of IoT are infinite but today we will only discuss about the main domains:

1. Smart Home: If we talk about the IoT appliances, smart homes are the first thing we think of. If we look around us, we will find many smart appliances. The best example of smart home automation is Jarvis, the AI home by Mark Zuckerberg. Today more than 2,000 people search about smart home per day. Another interesting fact is that more than 250 companies and startups own the smart home database. The total funding for smart home startups is increasing at a rapid rate and today it exceeded $3 billion.

2. Smart Grid: A smart grid is basically an electrical grid including various operations and energy measures including smart appliances and renewable energy sources. The bulk of smart grid technologies are already used in other applications. A smart grid represents the whole suite of electricity supply. Around 40,000 monthly google searches of smart grid shows its popularity. IoT in smart grid adds the ability of exchanging information with all components through some network connection. Smart grids have the ability to tell you the behavior of the supplier as well as the consumer.

3. Smart City: Smart city is another powerful application of IoT generating curiosity among world’s population. Smart surveillance, automated transportation, smarter energy management systems, water distribution, urban security and environmental monitoring all are examples of internet of things applications for smart cities. Today the smart city concept is implemented specifically for different cities because the problems faced in Delhi are very different than those in Bangalore and the problems in London are different from New York. Hence, they affect each city differently. The Government and engineers can use IoT in town planning to analyze the often-complex of specific city. The use of IoT applications can aid in areas like water management, waste control, and emergencies.

4. Agriculture: To feed nearly 10 billion ever-growing world population, one needs to marry agriculture to technology and take out the best results. There are n-possibilities in this field. One of the best is the Smart-greenhouse. It is a technique enhancing the production of crops by controlling environmental conditions. This green house have the inbuilt devices connected to a network through which we can monitor and control the climate inside it.

5. Industrial Automation: Industrial Automation is one of the special IoT applications. It enables connecting machines and devices in industries via a network. It is empowering industrial engineering with various sensors, software and cloud to gain the best possible results. These systems are functional and can provide ease of use but are not reliable because they do not typically create emergency situations if a downtime was to occur.

6. Wearables: Just like smart homes, wearables remain a hot topic among potential IoT. Every year, consumers all across the globe wait the release of the latest Samsung and Apple smartwatch. Apart from this, there are plenty of other wearable devices that make our life easy, such as the Sony Smart B Trainer, Mi-band, or the Myo gesture control. One of the lesser-known wearables includes the Guardian glucose monitoring device. The device is developed to help people suffering from diabetes. It detects glucose levels in the body, using a tiny electrode called glucose sensor which is placed under the skin and transfers the information via Radio Frequency to a monitoring device.

7. Health Care: It is a sleeping giant of Internet of Things. The concept of connected health care and smart health devices bears great potential. But yet it hasn’t reached the masses. No large-scale startups are seen in this field. But in near future we might see the emerging startups in this field too. It has the potential to deliver more care and also to keep patients safe healthy. IoT in healthcare brought new tools with latest and updated technologies such as fitness sensors and surgical bots helping healthcare to develop better.

8. Connected Cars: This technology covers a vast and extensive network of multiple sensors, software and technologies that assist in communication to navigate in our complex world. It has the ability to make decisions with accuracy and consistency. Most large auto makers as well as some brave startups are working on connected car solutions. Major brands like Tesla, BMW, Apple, Google are working on bringing the next revolution in automobiles.

This was all about IoT Applications. Hope you liked it.
