3 Tips for Dominating Facebook’s Newsfeed with Video

Video has become the number 1 dominate force on social media. Facebook Video increased by 94 percent in the U.S in one year. There are 8 billion views of videos on Facebook per day. What’s more, 80% of traffic will be from online videos by 2020. (eMarketer)

Facebook Live and video has significantly impacted the way we consume content on social media; it only makes sense that we, as marketers, need to embrace this trend and deliver our messages using video.

The implications for school marketers is clear — we need to be investing in video content in the Facebook newsfeed.

But if you’re not a professional videographer, how do you leverage the power of video for your school? Just getting started with video? Check out my post (and free download) with 3 tips for creating amazing videos for your school.

Here are 3 tips for dominating Facebook’s newsfeed using videos.

  1. Facebook Live

Facebook Live can be terrifying for most people. We worry about how we look on camera, what the backdrop looks like, drawing a blank while we’re talking or stumbling on a word while we’re talking. The reality is that people want to see other people they can relate to. It’s OK if someone makes a mistake or stumbles on a word because people can relate — we all stumble and make mistakes. They are real people and they want to relate to another real person. So do a Facebook livestream and talk about your school; give them a “day in the life of our school” or any other topic you think makes sense for your parents, student, and even staff.

Facebook LOVES Live videos. You will be seen by way more people if you use this technology. People will be shown Facebook Live videos in their newsfeeds even if they don’t see anything else you post because Facebook prefers Live over other content.

  1. Upload your videos directly to Facebook.

Facebook prefers direct links over outside links. If you are a video marketer, you know that you need to create your content daily in a video form and upload to YouTube. But do not post your YouTube link in Facebook. Facebook and YouTube are competitors; Facebook will not show your YouTube linked video very much, especially not compared to how often they will show a video that’s been uploaded directly into Facebook. You will receive far more engagement and reach if you upload to Facebook.

  1. Use Facebook’s built in “Create Slideshow” feature.

Facebook offers an ad feature called “Create Slideshow” from your Page using multiple images, text and sounds. This is a great feature that uses 3–10 photos to create a slideshow that looks like a video. Click here to learn more about Facebook’s Create Slideshow tool. This is an awesome tool, especially if you are a little shy about getting in front of a camera. Facebook will do the heavy lifting for you — all you do us upload the photos and choose your settings (like image duration, transition to fade and music. You do need to boost your post using a set budget amount but you would most likely want to do that anyway to get your slideshow seen.

I hope you’ve gotten value out of these 3 tips today. If you haven’t started using video for your school I hope these tips to get your videos found in the Facebook newsfeed will help inspire you to get started. Video is going to be the number one future social media marketing trend; now is a great time to get started if you haven’t already.
