The topic I will be covering is salary caps in sports; not so much which one is better than the other, but rather using this time to teach you about the different types of caps within the three major sports leagues (NBA, NFL, MLB) and how each of them function. I provided three readings for you to “look over” (I do not expect you to fully understand each salary cap method, but rather use these to give you an idea of each method) and these three articles will be revisited in the lesson. The following is my lesson plan or the time I am given:

(5 minutes) Revisit the types of salary caps

-Hard Salary Cap (NFL)

-Soft Salary Cap (NBA)

-Luxury Tax Cap (MLB)

(3 minutes) Pros and cons of having a salary cap

(10 minutes) Maximum contracts / Minimum contracts & how each salary cap limit functions

-NFL

-NBA

-MLB

-Will Explain Soft Salary Cap Exceptions in the NBA with Lillard, Leonard, Davis article (WILL BE PROVIDED IN CLASS)

(2 minutes) Collective Bargaining, what is it?

(10 minutes) Activity: TBA

I have a secret activity planned for us to do at the end that will revisit the material I covered and THERE WILL BE REWARDS!!!!!!!! (so I suggest that you try and listen attentively, take some notes on important points that I bring up, and maybe highlight some of the material in the articles I provided)

Other than skimming through the three articles, all I ask of you is to show up to class ready to enjoy learning about the different methods of Salary Caps used in sports!!!

Thanks and see you all Wednesday!
