Friday Five (08/12)

by School of Doodle

Wanna hear what’s been on our minds this week? Then hit PLAY and read on below!

FriYAY playlist :)

1. Being Loud

As some of you may know, there are two words that we live by: Be Loud. Being Loud, while it is usually on our minds, was a big focus this week, as we looked into the Doodle past (and future).

Missy Elliot’s song Get Ur Freak On resonates with our motto. Listen to this catchy, upbeat song to get inspired to be U!

2. SEX (Ed)

Sex Ed in Mean Girls

This week, we had the chance to interview two sex specialists, Amy Rose Speigel and Kibby Ralston. We are always thinking about how to keep ourselves safe, both physically and emotionally. Sex Ed is extremely important, to us here at Doodle, and to every other single human being on this planet (whether or not they plan on having sex). Sex is so much more complex and nuanced than a lot of the Sex Ed taught in schools, as Mean Girls’ fitness coach so clearly demonstrates. So, Let’s Talk About Sex.

3. Olympic Gold

Neon Uterus by Zoë Buckman

With the start of the 2016 Rio Olympics, how can we not include this pervasive theme in our weekly roundup? With a rocky start, the Olympics have brought up some serious concerns about Brazilian politics and conditions. But they have also spotlighted some of the stars of our generation, including the Final Five and USA swimmer Katie Ledecky.

Hit Me with Your Best Shot is an homage to the kickass athletes competing at the Olympics, as well as to the strength and perserverance of those being subjected to the turbulent political climate in Rio.

4. Brooke’s Health Tips

Yum!! We love bread and we LOVE Brooke! This week, Doodle writer and ambassador Brooke McBride was waaay ahead of us, leaving a trail of breadcrumbs behind. Brooke’s specialty is all things health, specifically the life of a Gluten Free gal.

Cherry Glazerr’s Grilled Cheese perfectly describes our love of all thigns food. We also got a chance to shoot a BTS video and interview the band this week, which will be coming up soon!

5. Calling Out

Las Hijas de Violencia

This week was all about noticing the injustices in our lives and calling them out! From political to social inequities, we at Doodle are all about righting wrongs. But sometimes righting those wrongs can’t happen until we spotlight the problem.

You Think You’re Tough by Hunx & His Punx is a rebellious song all about calling out arrogance and delusion.
