Listen Up: How to Trust Yourself
by Jules Spector

1. Trust yourself. It’s SO important to remember that you know yourself better than anyone else. The decisions you make for yourself, because you look out for yourself and know what your needs and ambitions are, will end up affecting you more positively than the decisions others make for you without your guidance. If your brain and get are telling you to go one way, go that way. You have to remember that your brain only wants what’s best for you.
2. Believe in yourself. You have the power to make decisions in your life. Though you may not know 100% what you want to do with it or who you are, you know subconsciously what your calling is. Your brain loves you and you have to trust that it’s figuring out your life and is only making decisions to make you a better version of you.
3. Don’t overthink it. As a young person, it’s important to try all sorts of things to figure out what you want to do with your life. Because you have to try so many things in order to become who you’re meant to be, you have to go with your gut reaction. Don’t worry too much about what the “right” choice is — if you always play it safe, you won’t experience all the things this world has to offer.
4. Be independent. In life, if you’re too tied down by other’s opinions of you, you won’t get far. It’s important to care more about what you love than what others think of what you love. If you’re too reliant on permission from others, you won’t get anywhere. The only permission you need is the permission from yourself.
5. Be persistent. If you do require another’s permission for your project or idea and they DO tell you no (for whatever reason), keep going! There’s not only one voice in this world. There may be others who realize how AWESOME your idea is and tell you YES with enthusiasm! But you’ll never know that unless you keep asking.
