A recipe for purposeful node activation

Hello everyone!

I started an experiment this morning and it seems to be working quite well! I quickly formulated it into a recipe that you can try. This is a recipe designed to actually collect the ingredients for the world we want to create.

So please give it a try and let’s see what kind of thing we are baking here!

The next step in our world-growing exercise is to activate nodes in our purposeful network.

This is a recipe based on a theory which is still in development. It is also an experiment, to see how many people try the recipe. Trying the recipe is also a vote, because the more people who try the recipe the faster our collective dream will come true. So it is an experiment to see if the world is as ready for this as I think it is.

You may want to adjust the recipe so it feels right for you. It is a recipe for getting people to activate themselves as nodes on a network, by getting off of their asses for long enough to articulate their purpose in an actionable way, by proclaiming to the universe the world that they want to see and the part they want to play on it. They need to make this actionable by asking explicitly for the help they need and what services they can provide.

Please try this recipe, and see if it works for you.

Step 1. Provoke.

We need to begin by getting the attention of the right people.

Post this question or your version of it:

“How would you go about creating a purposeful social network without any money in the foundations?”

Step 2. Activate purpose.

Awakening purpose into action. When people start to talk about purpose and action, they need to hear a vision for why it matters and they will need a next step. This step is about getting people to click a button and enter a staging area.

Use this script or create your own version.

“Why am I building a purposeful network?

I want to stop talking and start doing. So I want people who are sick of the talk and want to start doing something to come together and start making the future instead of thinking we can all sit around and talk it into existence.

I’m not getting paid for this and you’re not either. This needs to be a volunteer effort because the future must belong to all of us. This is a social network that must be owned by the people who build it. There can’t be money baked into the foundations and it can never be sold.

So if we truly want to own our future we can’t sit around and wait. Because if we do, someone else will build it, and they will own it.

There is no easy way to create the future we want. A few of us, and I hope you are one of them, are getting off of our asses and getting to work. I need your ideas but I also need your skills and your willingness to work on this.

So armchair critics need not apply. Your comments will be as valid as the effort you are putting into it. Because that’s what we need right now. Optimists and possibilitarians and makers who are ready to raise their hand and get to work with no promise of reward. Because it needs to be done.

If you don’t know how to make things and you are not willing to learn, we don’t need you yet. Right now this is a network for makers, not talkers, because we need to make something first in order to talk about it meaningfully.

You will not build a reputation in this network by your words but by your deeds.

Is this you? If so, I want you to join me here.

Step 3. Activation.

Once people have joined the staging area with the right expectations, activate them by getting them to add themselves as a node. In our network you are an activated node when you have documented your life purpose (which you can change any time) in a way that is actionable. We have a format for that.

Use this script or create your own.

“Awesome! Okay so we have a next step.

You need to get yourself up on the network so you and your purpose can be findable.

It starts by putting your purpose on one page, it’s like your profile page on Facebook, which we are calling a lab page. It’s a place where you document your purpose so you can connect with others and find fun and constructive and creative things to do together.

Here’s how to get up and running:

Step 4. Support.

People are not accustomed to thinking in this way. They may need your help to figure out what their purpose is, how to describe it, and so on. Help them get the best one together that they can and get something up, even if it’s not that great, so they can get started connecting and improving.

To be able to do this last step you will need to be activated yourself. So get your lab page together and get it up on medium. We will then make you an editor in our publication, which will allow you to add your lab to the network. Then you can help other people get their lab pages together.

This is the first step. Simply getting people to activate their purpose in a standard way so we can all more easily find each other and connect.

One lab page, one person. It’s very important that this be YOUR page, not your company’s page. Teams change, organizations change. The fundamental unit in the systems we are building is a person who has a purpose. The purpose may change but the person will not. A single person with a purpose that matters to them is the atom in our universe.

When your page is up and you are ready to be an editor, ping me or any other editor and we will add you.

Send a note to me here when you are ready, and tell me you want to be activated.
