Asking AI: How did nociception evolve?

What does GPT-3 know?

GPT-3: Pain is a mechanism used by nature to protect organisms from harm. The brain perceives potential threats, and sends signals through the nervous system to cause pain in tissues that are under attack or being damaged. Nociceptors (pain receptors) have evolved over time because they allow animals without brains to react quickly to avoid damage, but also because it helps animals with brains feel pain as an indication of danger.
