Practicing gratitude can be a life changer.

You go from having a negative mindset to a positive one. You start to feel a sense of contentment with what you have and what you’ve accomplished. Your life seems to be better all of a sudden. You’re focused on the good parts of your life. And this is very important in order to live well.

Usually, we spend most of our time complaining, unsatisfied with our belongings and life, and focusing on what we should have rather than what we already do. And this is funny because after we finally get what we have been longing for, we’re happy for just a second or two. And then we focus on the next thing we need that’s missing from our lives. This becomes a loop of constant longing and attainment.

Life will pass by quickly if you can’t stop to smell the flowers.

Longing for something isn’t wrong. But constant longing while not focusing on contentment with our present belongings can be toxic for us. All I’m saying is, to remind yourself of the things that you love which are already in your life. Consciously practicing this can give you an immense boost of happiness in life.

Yes, it may be very tough to follow. Especially when you believe that you don’t have much to begin with. But no matter how little you think you have, there’s still something to be thankful about. It could be as small as saying or thinking “I’m grateful for this morning cup of coffee. It tastes amazing."

Being grateful will help you shift focus from the negative aspects in life to the positive. It’ll help you shift focus from what is lacking to what you already have. And you’ll realize that no matter what or how little you have. You are in abundance.

You came into this world with nothing. And you’ll take nothing when you go. So no matter what happens, you’re on the plus side right now, isn’t it? — Sadhguru

So be happy for all that you have. And look forward to all that you will have in the future. Be grateful for the things you got in the past, the present, and what you will get in the future.

This will shape your mind to love your life. And enjoy what you have right now. Don’t lose the present moment by longing for what’s not there.

Gratitude can be practiced by writing what you’re grateful for, saying it aloud and thinking about it. And when you do these, you have to truly feel it within you. You must truly be thankful. Writing or saying it doesn’t make an impact if you’re not feeling it.

Try this out for a day. Do it first thing in the morning when you wake up. Say “I’m grateful that I woke up today".

Practice gratitude when you don’t feel good. It will lift your spirits. Also practice it when you’re feeling good. Make it a habit. And you’ll see the immense impact it has on your life.

Good Luck!
