Procrastination is the wall that stops you from achieving all those dreams and goals you have set for yourself.

Basically, the act of putting off your work for the future is procrastination. This definition of procrastination does not scare anyone and hence the rise of procrastination in our culture. What if I tell you procrastination is an evil power that stops you from achieving the very definition of success you have in your mind.

Procrastination kills a lot of productivity and slows down your pace of achieving what you want. With the rise in usage of social media, the procrastination culture has gone up more. If you too are struggling to deal with procrastination the step-by-step guide provided by Brian Tracy in his book Eat That Frog is the best approach.

Personally, I have applied these guides and it has helped me overcome my habit of procrastination. These are simple steps that you can too apply in your daily life that can help you end procrastination and increase your productivity.

Think on Paper

Write down whatever it is that you want to accomplish, don’t just think about it but carve it on a piece of paper. Also, set out the deadline for each and every goal you want to achieve.

Daily routine

Create a daily routine and get disciplined. Create a routine such that every day you work on small steps of achieving the goals you have written down.

80/20 Rule

80% of your results are from the 20% of the task you perform. Apply this Pareto principle and figure out the 20% of the effort you put in that gives most of the result. Figure out the most important task and focus on doing that. Resist the temptation to clear the small task first and focus on the important ones.

Creative Procrastination

Develop a habit of scheduling less important work for the future and focusing on the task at hand. A lot of unwanted addition of tasks diverts our attention and hence decreases productivity. You can check your phone notification later and finish what you are focusing on right now.

Preparation

Plan before acting on any goals. Prepare a rough visualization of what and how you are going to work on. Preparation helps you build confidence and improves your workflow.

Take one oil barrel at a time

Perform one task at a time. Our brains are not wired to multi-task. Multitasking breaks focus and fewer focus results in less productivity. Set out time for performing every task and then single handle a task.

Positive pressure

We, humans, are built to work under pressure, use this as a weapon to end procrastination. Set out deadlines for every one of your tasks and dedicate yourself to it. Always work by keeping the deadline in mind and do your best to meet it.

Motivate yourself

Keep reminding yourself that you are working to achieve your dreams and fulfilling your desires. Motivate yourself into action and keep up the consistency.

Slice and dice the tasks

Having a huge workload gets hectic. Slice your bigger tasks into smaller tasks and work on the smaller ones. Step by step work on the smaller tasks that will ultimately lead you to the completion of the bigger task.

Attention and time

Set out a time period of deep work. Set out time according to your feasibility, one hour, two hours as per your choice. Give undivided attention time and perform deep work during that time. Deep work improves focus and productivity.

Urgency

Develop a sense of urgency for every task you do. The more urgent you believe the task is, the more you are likely to work on it with undivided attention. Develop a sense of urgency for important tasks.

Desire

Strengthen your desire towards all the goals you want to achieve. More the fire within you more you are likely to work towards your goal.

Applying these into your daily life will help you end the procrastination that has always been on your back dragging you towards a lazy lifestyle. Implementation of all these may seem overwhelming, but believe me, it gets easier once you get started. All you got to do is start by taking out a pen and a paper and then writing down the goals you want to achieve.
