I have always thought about the future of mankind and modern civilization for the near future. These thoughts only intensified after recently watching Interstellar (2014) for the very first time last night.

In the film, the human population is basically nearing extinction because of food and general resource shortages. A father who is adept in piloting is trusted to undertake a secret mission to space to find other inhabitable planets and was able to go through a wormhole to another galaxy.

Upon watching this film, I wondered how it might be for humans in the real world in the next few decades or so. Elon Musk obviously is trying to commercialize space flight to other planets through his company SpaceX, and NASA has several projects lined up with a similar goal.

Before I begin, I just want to clear up that these are my predictions and opinions about the next decade, and perhaps beyond that.

1.Loss of Fossil Fuels

I believe the first thing that we will do in the next 10 years is to use up most of our fossil fuels. Energy consumption in the United States has only grown exponentially with a few dips here and there because of Covid, or increasing awareness.

This might build up a necessity for the use of other sustainable energy. This may include electric/solar, hydro-power, wind, etc.

To avoid this, I think we should try to switch to electric vehicles in most homes as soon as possible. I am a strong believer in solar energy and the future for it, and I think most farms, and other large business areas should make the switch to this type of energy.

2.Decreasing Numbers of Scientists and Engineers

I think the digital age is well beyond beginning at this point, but I feel like this generation is keen to find success in business, e-commerce, basically striking it rich, etc.

I do think that we are on the verge of losing tremendous, necessary steps forward in interstellar travel and other human achievements by people wanted to get rich.

I think as a society, we should be trying to move forward in science, physics/space, and AI. Additionally, we can do this by furthering away from crime and allowing free education and general resources to children until 18.

While entrepreneurship and commerce have their place, an emphasis on scientific exploration and discovery should be more focused, with the goal of enhancing current living standards, and the future for the human civilizations.

3.Increase in the Pursuit For Money

Obviously the pursuit of financial stability and family wellbeing are very prominent, and for good reason, but I think a society with its focus on STEM will promise a longer return for the future than what we attempt to get today.

For example, you may want to pursue money because it provides opportunity for your children and perhaps their children as well. However, a human civilization without its main focus on STEM might not have the ability to host the next generation.

I think with the emergence of certain influential figures in our society, people are being veered to a life devoted to make the most money possible, and I know certain cultures actually expect this as well.

Conclusion

If we start now, there may be an actual chance for us, as humans to create this civilization that prioritizes energy management, human achievements, and the progression of STEM over instant gratification and wellbeing in knowledge of the fact that your kids will be fine.

The real question is, what about their kids?

Thank you so much for hearing my thoughts and opinions on such a difficult topic to write about, I really hope to see what you all think of my predictions as well, and maybe some of your own expectations.
