Why You Should Assume Your Weight Loss Goal Will Take a Year

If you have a lot of weight to lose, you might be tempted to do it as quickly as possible.

You may succeed, but the measures you take for rapid weight loss will not be sustainable.

This will end up doing you a disservice in the long run because you are training yourself to chase quick results instead of build lifelong habits.

Managing your weight is an endless pursuit.

So, whether you have 100 pounds to lose or are happy with your current weight, your goal should be to build habits to help you manage your weight for life.

Assuming whatever weight goal you have (outside of maybe 0–5 lbs) will take a year is a good mindset to adopt because it forces you to be more focused on the process than the outcome.

This way, when you do achieve your goal, you’ve had a year to fine tune your behaviors instead of just a few weeks or a couple of months.

This approach better prepares you for your next goal, whether that’s losing another few pounds…
