You may have done many things in life that you think are not right. You regret taking these decisions. You blame yourself for what you did. And you find it hard to move on and forgive yourself.

But this guilt and shame that comes with regretting our actions has the power to destroy our spirit, mental health and eventually our personality, if it’s not dealt with.

We all make mistakes. Sometimes we repeat them. We’re human. We do terrible stuff. All of us. It’s the truth about our nature.

If you’re feeling ashamed of guilty of your actions, then let me tell you that it’s the first sign that you have a good conscience. You want to improve and do better. You want make things right.

And it’s all possible. But you have to forgive yourself first — for everything you feel guilty or ashamed about.

The past is the past. All the things you feel bad about doing is over. Every day is a new day, and you have the opportunity right now to do better. And if you’re finding it tough, and if you’re failing over and over again, that’s okay too. Change takes time. Keep trying. And don’t stop giving it more tries. One of these attempts will be successful and that’s how things will change.

You can’t do better if you constantly punish yourself. Think about it. Would you try to help someone you love to do better by punishing them for their past mistakes? You wouldn’t punish them or make them feel bad at all. You’d help them do better and tell them not to treat themselves badly for their past. So, I ask you this — Why aren’t you doing the same for yourself? You love yourself deep down inside no matter what. So, treat yourself the same way you would treat a loved one.

Guilt or shame will not take you anywhere nice. It’s self-sabotage. If you felt bad about something you did even once and you understand that you made a mistake, it’s enough! Don’t prolong it anymore. Nip it in the bud. And focusing on your next best move.

You got this!
