Igniting Minds through Reading: Join Our STE{A}M Book Club Today! The first book is “Principles” by Ray Dalio.
I am a Science Technology and Society major and I do believe that progress in society comes from the collaborative efforts of STEM, Business and the Humanities. If you share this same belief, we invite you to embark on an intellectual journey with us through the pages of captivating books that explore the boundless possibilities of STE{A}M collaboration.
Why Start a STE{A}M Book Club?
The power of books is found in both the knowledge they transmit and the stories they tell. As voracious readers, we are aware of how literature can promote interdisciplinary thinking, curiosity, and creative inspiration. These ideas serve as the cornerstone of our STEAM Book Club, which was created with the goal of uniting like-minded people who are eager to explore the intersection of science, technology, engineering, math, business and the humanities.
The Value of STE{A}M Collaboration
In today’s dynamic and interconnected world, businesses are increasingly recognizing the immense value of STE{A}M collaboration. While each discipline brings unique strengths, it is the harmonious convergence of these fields that propels innovation and drives success in the corporate landscape.
Pillar 1: The Power of Kaizen — Embrace Continuous Improvement
At the core of our book club lies the first pillar of personal development — the philosophy of Kaizen, which emphasizes the concept of “1% better every day.” Through the pages of inspiring books, we seek to foster a culture of continuous improvement that transcends academic boundaries and delves into the realms of stem, business and the humanities.
- Embracing Lifelong Learning: In the spirit of Kaizen, our STE{A}M Book Club encourages members to embrace a lifelong commitment to learning and self-improvement. By exploring diverse disciplines and ideas, we challenge ourselves to grow intellectually and personally.
- Incremental Progress: Like building blocks, the principles of Kaizen encourage us to focus on small, manageable steps towards self-improvement. We recognize that consistent, incremental progress can lead to profound transformations in our lives.
Pillar 2: The Wonder of Compound Interest — Unleash Exponential Growth
“Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it…he who doesn’t… pays it.” — Albert Einstein
The second pillar of our book club revolves around the concept of Compound Interest, often hailed as the eighth wonder of the world. In the context of personal development, we recognize that combining diverse disciplines and perspectives can amplify our growth exponentially.
- Multiplicative Impact: As we explore the intersections of science, technology, engineering, art, and math, we witness the multiplicative impact of diverse knowledge. Each discipline enhances the others, leading to transformative personal growth.
- Nurturing Synergy: Just as Compound Interest thrives on reinvestment, our STE{A}M Book Club encourages members to reinvest their insights and experiences back into their personal development journey. By nurturing synergy between disciplines, we unlock new avenues for growth.

Principles — Life and Work By Ray Dalio
I was recommended this book a couple of different times. The first book we are reading at STE{A}M Personal Development Book Club is Principles by Ray Dalio. Ray Dalio describes himself on LinkedIn as,
“A global macro investor for more than 50 years, Ray Dalio founded Bridgewater Associates out of his two-bedroom apartment in NYC and ran it for most of its 47 years, building it into the largest hedge fund in the world. Ray remains an investor and mentor at Bridgewater and serves on its board. He is also the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Principles: Life and Work, Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order, and Principles for Navigating Big Debt Crises. He graduated with a B.S. in Finance from C.W. Post College in 1971 and received an MBA degree from Harvard Business School in 1973. He has been married to his wife, Barbara, for more than 40 years and has three grown sons and five grandchildren. He is an active philanthropist with special interests in ocean exploration and helping to rectify the absence of equal opportunity in education, healthcare, and finance.”
In Principles, Ray Dalio shares his invaluable insights gained over decades of success in the world of finance and beyond. This New York Times bestseller outlines the principles that guided him in building one of the most successful investment firms in the world, Bridgewater Associates.
As we delve into Principles by Ray Dalio, we recognize that this exceptional book sets the tone for our pursuit of personal development through STE{A}M collaboration. We are excited to learn from each other, draw parallels between Dalio’s principles and the STE{A}M ethos, and discover how these valuable insights can elevate our individual growth.
