It’s been a fun, thirst-fighting road for Liquid Death, and we’d like to extend a well-deserved congratulations to the Liquid Death team on their latest Series A fundraise of $9M. You can see the full story in TechCrunch.

At Science, we’ve always backed companies that do things a little bit differently; it’s our core ethos and investment theory. Aluminum and water are ordinary items, but when brought together with out-of-this-world branding, they can start a #DeathToPlastic revolution. We were attracted to the idea after meeting the founder Mike Cessario, who had a penchant for creativity and thinking outside-the-box. As Science co-founder Peter Pham put it, “his head-turning idea and detail for execution made him the perfect addition to Science’s incubator.” And it’s the reason that Mike Jones, our co-founder and CEO, is on the board.

Liquid Death has come a long way since we met a couple of years ago. Since launching in 2019, they’ve released genius marketing campaigns, partnered with actor Joe Manganiello as an ambassador, and worked closely with the Thirst Project and 5 Gyres to donate proceeds from every can sold to helping people access safe drinking water.

The good news doesn’t stop there. Today, Liquid Death is also introducing sparkling water, which is available for preorder, and next month, customers will be able to buy Liquid Death at Whole Foods stores nationwide.

They’re also rolling out the Keep the Underworld Beautiful Campaign, where Liquid Death imagines a hell that’s overrun with plastic. You can watch the video:

With a mission to get people to drink more water, Liquid Death has created one of the first sustainable alternatives to plastic bottled water, the largest plastic producers creating over 1.5 billion bottles per day. It’s also a social media darling and has resonated with potential customers immediately on an emotional level.

With consumers pivoting to more healthier lifestyles and becoming more conscious of waste, it’s clear to us that Liquid Death has a lot of life left to live. Cheers to their success.
