JEE | MHT-CET | NEET : Make the most in the last few months

With only 6 months left to JEE, MHT-CET & NEET, uncertainty is bound to creep in the mind of the students about their dream success.
This is the time when the ultimate target starts to look dreadful. But you are not supposed to be left out in the cold. It’s time that you take some time out and introspect your performance so far.
Ideally, you should be on the verge of completing your entrance exam syllabus and must have appeared over 15 full-length tests. You should now start analyzing all the papers you have attempted. For a progressive student, the graph should be an increasing curve. If not, then there is something that is restricting your performance.
Be it a bad performance or a stellar one: You must draw insights from them. Each exam ends with a takeaway. Note it down. They are important.
You may be thinking that analyzing over 100 chapters sounds humongous!!!
Don’t worry there are some tried and tested ways in which you can start analyzing. In this article, I am going to talk about one — Dissect & Inspect.

Dissect & Inspect all the full-length tests

This is the Sherlock Holmes approach.

Sherlock Holmes

Remember Sherlock Holmes, the popular private detective — Sher had been able to solve one of the most complicated murder mystery by just looking at the dead body. This is what you are supposed to do with your tests: Dissect & Inspect.

Dissect & Inspect is driven by 1.5x Thumb Rule — It implies that every student should at least spend 1.5 times in analyzing the test in comparison to the time he/she took to attempt the test.

Start tagging the wrong questions with relevant chapters. Once you have done this, you will be in a position to know your strengths and weaknesses.

Physics Performance Info-graphics — Reference

Refer the excel above, it tells you that your strengths are — Mathematical Tools, Rectlinear Motion & Circular Motion while your weakness lie in Relative Motion, Friction & Rigid Body Dynamics.

Now you know where to direct your efforts and by what proportion.

Believe me, 90% of the aspirants aren’t even aware of this.

Now lets further distillate and check the reasons behind these weaknesses. The following could be the probable reasons:-

  1. Syllabus yet to be completed;
  2. Exam Crack Down;
  3. Backlog due to Missed Classes and Assignments;

If your reason is

  1. Syllabus yet to be completed — then probably you should thrash your coaching to expedite the syllabus,
  2. Exam Crack Down — then you should attempt as many tests as possible under proper exam conditions to establish a comfort factor. Remember, if you spend a good amount of time with something, the likelihood of developing interest in that becomes very high.
    I would suggest you a tactic that worked best for me
    A)
    Take your exams seriously but never too seriously else the fear will creep in, and you will face blackouts during exams,
    B) Always keep it simple dude — you have a question and you gotta answer it-One at a time. Don’t be bothered about the outcome. Just keep attempting the test.
    C) Also, for any full-length test, start preparing at least a week in advance.
  3. Backlog due to Missed Classes and Assignments — then you should start targeting the backlog selectively as covering all of them may drastically add to the overall pressure. By selective, I mean covering those chapters that are simpler and have got a higher weight in the exam viz. in Physics, Units-Dimensions & Waves are the 2 chapters that can easily fetch you a good 10% marks in JEE.

In case you are finding it difficult to cover your backlogs, then probably you should look for ways to re-surge and rejuvenate.

This is where the concept of Crash Course comes as a savior. A Crash Course is meant to cover end to end syllabus with in a stipulated period of time. A crash course generally lasts for 3 Months from Nov to Jan. During this period the student usually attends a 6-hour session each day with a weekly test that ensures timely syllabus completion. Since Crash Course is time-bound, it is usually filled with rigor.
The discussion sheets, assignments & questions banks are kept highly curated to ensure maximum learning in minimum time.
The syllabus is structured in order of its weight in the exam to ensure maximum score improvement in the 3 months period.

Crash Course is suitable for students:-

  • Who missed the chance to prepare through a yearlong classroom program,
    who enrolled in a program but couldn’t fruitfully take the best out of it & developed backlogs,
  • Who wants to boost his rank by brushing & enhancing his/her overall preparation,
  • Who has already appeared JEE/NEET last year and is repeating the course for better performance

Although I tried covering as many aspects as possible, it is likely that I have missed out on few things given the limited time & space.
