Tesla’s predicaments and the Scienceroot solution

You’ve probably heard about the great inventors Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison. Both had a crucial impact on the development of science, and the world as we know today. Due to their efforts we now have access to electric lighting, the film camera, the electric motor, knowledge of laser usage, and wireless communication.

Accounts of that time indicate that young Tesla was a great admirer of Edison, and wanted to meet him. However, a lack of funds did not permit him to visit the inventor in the USA at an early age. In time, and with the help of one of his professors, Tesla managed to gather the money, and left Europe to meet Edison. Although initially friends, their fruitful collaboration came to an end once the War of Currents began.

While Edison promoted Direct Current (DC), Tesla advocated for the use of Alternating Current (AC). Without getting into detail, the former allows current to flow in a single direction, while in the case of AC current flow changes direction periodically. This means that only the usage of DC may be accurately tallied, and taxed. Considering the fact that only DC provided a business opportunity, it was Edison who received the funds to develop his project. The rest is history, and nowadays we rely on the utilization of DC. Furthermore, Edison never forgave Tesla for developing an alternative to his idea. Historians go as far as indicating that Edison relied on his wealth and influence to overturn Tesla’s patent for the radio, which was some years later awarded to Marconi.

Could things back then have gone the other way? We’ll never know. Can this history repeat itself today? With the help of Scienceroot, certainly not!

Finally, after Tesla’s separation from Edison, it took a while until he was able to find, and partner up with Westinghouse, a fellow scientists who supported his ideas. Unfortunately, it was already too late. Such predicaments are gone, with today’s technology enabling scientists worldwide to connect and collaborate online, thus expediting the advancements in science. However, another feature of Scienceroot, the collaboration platform, will allow researchers to connect, exchange ideas, and team up more easily and secure.
