We as a society are constantly comparing ourselves with others. This comparison helps us to analyze our flaws, work on them and ultimately better ourselves. The downside of such a comparison is that there are fair chances for people to get disheartened by the success of others. This disheartening, in most cases, leads to self-value depreciation and loss of self-confidence. We interpret the extent of our success by taking the achievements of others as benchmarks.

In the fast-paced world that we live in, we are expected to raise the bar and achieve success as quickly as possible. We look at the achievements of our peers and individuals who are younger to us and fall into a swamp of low self-esteem. We start doubting ourselves, our skills and capabilities. When people experience such things, they begin to make conclusions that our work is underappreciated and they are not valued as such in society. In extreme cases, it may result in the person falling into a depression. Such an attitude can have a drastic effect on the mental health of an individual. They end up with the impression that their life is worthless.

The value of a person is measured by the number of zeroes in their paycheck, the number of assets they possess or the number of companies they own. Success in material life has superseded all other aspects of judging whether an individual is of high value or not. To get some recognition, a lot of people start copying others whom they consider successful at the expense of their originality. Instead of following their passion and becoming an expert in that particular field, they begin to do things which they aren’t good at. In this process, they lose their peace of mind. Since, they end up doing something which they neither like nor are passionate about, their enthusiasm goes downhill. They might not feel like working anymore. As such their efficiency is greatly affected and the sense of work satisfaction becomes alien to them.

What people need to realize is that success does not follow a timeline. They need to understand that, sooner or later they will achieve success, be noticed, given value and respected in the society. The solution is to have some perseverance and self-belief. The success of others’ can be taken as a source of inspiration. Low feelings can be uplifted by speaking to able persons who can provide the required direction and motivation. They need to concentrate on the things at which they’re good and develop them to the best level possible. Following their passion will help them get the recognition which they long for.
