If you are a business owner, you’ve probably heard countless times that social media is an essential marketing tool. However, spending resources on posting updates may seem like a futile investment if your online presence lacks an audience — and after you have already reached out to your current contacts, trying to grow can feel a bit daunting. While it is great to get out in the real world and find connections in person, this shouldn’t be your only strategy. There many ways that you can grow your Instagram organically, and because social media allows you to interact with a virtually limitless online audience, it is worth your time and effort. Here’s how we do it:

Find Accounts Whose Followers You Want As Your Own

Our process starts with looking through our current followers, and deciding who is likely to have many of our target profile customers as their followers. We pick 10–15 of the them. On those profiles we make sure to engage in at least one of their posts every day. You should be reaching out to other commenters and responding to what they say. If you want to try out this strategy for yourself, remember that your focus should be on cultivating connection and familiarity between you and other commenters, and not necessarily the person whose profile you are on — you already have that connection. If you have made any sort of impression on these potential contacts, they will recognize your profile picture when they get a notification that you followed them, and most likely they will reciprocate.

Add Value To Your Profile

Creating a bunch of comments across many different profiles is great as the purpose of them is to casually connect with people. On your own profile however, the mass of content you make is not as important as the quality of that content. Posting great photos on your Instagram will entice people to follow you that may not have felt any reason to otherwise. This is especially true when reaching out to unfamiliar people, and while having an active account is important, it matters much less to viewers than the content on your profile.

Give A Call To Action

Don’t be scared to put your product on your company’s Instagram. Sales are the whole point, right? That said, the best way to get unfollowed is by spamming people with promotional photos. Keep your pitch as subtle as you can without compromising clarity. With that, it’s also important to give a call to action. Some examples of this include showing a new function, offering a coupon, or revealing a product — any of which should end with an invitation to you website.
