We are excited to announce that Terry Fong, Chief Scientist at NASA, has joined Scotty Labs as Chief Roboticist in Residence! Over the past couple of years, Terry has worked very closely with the entire Scotty team as an adviser and he has been a great resource to us as we continue to navigate the complex world of autonomous driving.

Scotty Labs was founded at SRI International on the idea that autonomous driving is as much a machine intelligence problem as it is a human intelligence problem. We believe the problem we are solving will be one of the hardest and most important problems of the next decade, and we have spent the last two years putting together one of the best and most diverse teams in the industry. Our team is made up of researchers, engineers and operators with backgrounds in Physics, electrical engineering, computer science, and robotics. Members of Scotty Labs have worked at companies like Apple, SRI International, Cruise Automation, Google and many other amazing organizations. We are excited to have Terry on board and we look forward to continuing to build an amazing product and team together.

For those of you who don’t know him, Terry is one of the most accomplished roboticists in the world. He has a PhD in robotics from CMU and has led some of the most important robotics and space exploration projects of humankind, most recently leading the Mars Rover Exploration project. Throughout his career, Terry has contributed extensively to the areas of autonomous driving, tele-operations, human-machine interfaces and virtual reality. Terry will continue to perform core research work at NASA while he works even closer with our team to help bring our shared vision to life (we will be announcing more on this soon!).

Beam Up!

Tobenna and the Scotty Team.
