Our colleagues Juri and Philipp have recently been invited to share their experience at the “Elastic{ON}Tour” in Frankfurt. The following talk will guide you through failure, success and share the experience gained while using Elasticsearch.

As an early adopter of Elasticsearch, AutoScout24 has tried it all. The first part of this talk shows how Autoscout24 started using Elasticsearch as backend for our public search in 2013, when Elasticsearch was a new kid on the block. Afterwards Juri will take you on a journey, starting at the process of introducing Elasticsearch into our datacenter and ending at the [migration to AWS]. (http://techblog.scout24.com/2015/01/autoscout24-changes-technology/)

During the second part of this talk, Philipp talks about how by using Elasticsearch, AutoScout24 gives its engineering teams the ability to see all distributed logs in one place. As they deploy every commit automatically to production, it is important for them to improve the deployment time of up to 10 hours down to 60 minutes. Furthermore, another challenge was the use of SpotFleet instances to save money.

The Speakers:

Philipp Garbe is a Lead Software Developer at AutoScout24 in Munich. He has worked for over 7 years with web technologies; currently he is part of “Tatsu”- a project that transforms the matured AutoScout24 IT setup into a next generation Web-Scale IT platform. Philipp is driven by technologies & tools, which enable him to release faster and even more often. He is expecting every commit to automatically go into production. Furthermore, he is interested in microservices, docker and the cloud. Get in touch with him on Twitter or GitHub.

Juri Smarschevski has been working at AutoScout24 for more than 5 years. Mostly he was working as a developer, focusing on search. One year ago, he switched from technical to organization & product. Nevertheless, he doesn’t give up on his main goal of implementing intelligent free text search on the AutoScout24 platform. Get in touch with him on GitHub.
